What is Cocopeat ? How to use it ?
- Coco peat is a natural pith that is extracted from the husk of the coconut.
- Cocopeat has anti-fungal properties , This makes an excellent choice to start seed but it’s used in rugs, ropes and brushes.
How to use Cocopeat?
- Break the block in parts and keep it in a large bucket. Add water to saturate the brick.
- Make the dry coco peat to sink in the water for some time to make the cocopeat loose and absorb the water.
- Stir the coco peat with a garden trowel after 10 minutes,If its dry add more water and Stop stirring if it’s loose.
- Stir again after some time to make sure all of it has been moistened, and add more water if it’s not loose yet.
- Cocopeat is ready to use in the garden,when it is loose and moistened
- Coco peat is directly put in the soil to increase water retention, aeration and decrease the root diseases and fungus in the soil . Mix the soil at 25/75 ratio.
- It also used as a mulch in garden to help the soil retain moisture and to stop weed growth.
Properties of Cocopeat
- Cocopeat is light, easy to handle and it can be reused for 4 years.
- The physical and biochemical properties of cocopeat make it resistant to bacterial and fungal growth.
- It has pH of 5.2 to 6.8 which is neutral to slightly acidic. That’s why it is good to be mixed with alkaline garden soil.
- Cocopeat can be combined with any of the usual ingredients like soil and manure to be used as a mixture or a stand-alone product.
